How can i play valhalla golf club

Playing Bethpage Black over a few cold ones after the round, was one of the more unexpected and enjoyable surprises of the trip. They tend to be long, difficult, and often relatively un-interesting Championship layouts. But fortunately, I thought the course was scenic, had a fun routing, and a really enjoyable blend of holes.

During one day of the Ryder Cup, a shorter tee box was utilized in hopes of enticing the pros to take a rip at driving the green.

But with the nation's pride on the line, the safe play was employed by players; understandable given that hitting your driver yards with enough backspin to hold an island green is a daunting task even for the big boys. The peaceful setting is located at one corner of the property and features a forest of trees along the right side of the hole and behind it. Floyd's Fork cuts through the hole beyond the front tee box and plays a factor on tee shots blocked way right or tee shots that miss the bunkers right and careen off the slope to the water.

The attractive setting, bunkering, and trees make this Valhalla's best one-shotter. Best Par 4: 12th Hole — Yards — A relentless par four, the 12th is a true test from tee to green.

With the green out of sight from the box, the opening shot plays out to a point between the trees before setting up a daunting approach. The elevated green sits back in a hillside threaded between the trees and features a deep sand bunker on the right and thick, sloping rough on the left. When I asked one of the assistant pros what his favorite hole on the course was he identified the 12th as Valhalla's premier offering due to the challenge and design.

For me a draw fits my mindset better. Below is the approach into the 7th green. Note the water along the left side of the fairway leading up to the hole. That water is not much in play from the right side fairway option, but for players going down the left side off the tee, its all carry to get to the green.

The 8th hole is a nifty little par 3 that plays yards. The green has some contour to it and I ended up left of the flag and had to negotiate a pretty difficult putt. The 12th hole was probably my favorite on the course. This is a yard par 4 and driver is not really an option here. In the photo below the fairway runs out before the hole heads down a hill. I hit a 3 wood here. The photo below was taken from where the fairway runs out. You can see the green in the distance and the rough that runs down the hill to the point where the fairway resumes at the bottom of the hill.

Here is a closer look at the green. Note that the area between the fairway and the green is all thick rough as well. Definitely need the aerial game here. The 13th hole is a par 4 that I played from yards. I went with the 3 wood off the tee here again. There is plenty of bunker trouble on the left and right so the best thing to do is just hit something nice and easy down the middle. You will want to be hitting your second shot from the fairway.

Below is a photo of the green at the 13th hole. As you can see it is basically an island green which is why its a good idea to make sure your approach shot is hit from the fairway. The 14th hole is one of the more famous ones here at Valhalla. This is a par 3 that played from the green tees.
