Brave movie what is it about

Merida is a princess you can really root for, not one that gets by on her looks or charm, and Elinor is a shining mother figure without a whiff of unnecessary evil stereotype.

Brave might not pack the emotional wallop of Up or Toy Story 3 , but its weight is admirably strong. With its grounded morals, I'll go ahead and deem it required viewing for those princess-obsessed girls out there and their mothers. Like all of Pixar's films, Brave looks and sounds absolutely amazing. With every movie, the studio improves upon its unmatched animation prowess, 3D design though the movie is not essential to see in 3D , and visual design of endlessly detailed settings.

The movie is so gorgeous with a fictional Scotland that a few travel agents might just see their business bump up soon. The entire presentation takes you to another place and that's what a good fairy tale should do. Pixar easter egg hunters, be on your toes.

See if you can spot the Toy Story Pizza Planet truck with your eyes and the good luck charm cameo of John Ratzenberger with your ears. This first lesson is a repeated quote from a pair of characters. Unwisely, the desperate girl hopes that a potent magical incantation may be the solution to her problems; however, to change one's destiny, one must first change from within.

Will Merida face the grievous consequences, and take responsibility for her actions? Sign In. Edit Brave Jump to: Summaries 6 Synopsis 1. The synopsis below may give away important plot points.

Getting Started Contributor Zone ». As it stands, this all-important development not only comes very late and relatively out of the blue, it also relegates the charming witch character to a mere plot device. First of all, I have problems with the whole bear symbolism. Second, we have no great Moment of Truth here. She never intended to turn her mother into a bear; she only wanted her mother to change.

From beginning to end, Merida is punished for that not-so-unreasonable desire as much as for her misguided but guileless actions. Granted, Merida certainly has things to learn, but I would argue the story was wrong in wanting to make her bear the greater burden of blame.

They include all of the following:. Varied themes are never a bad thing as long as they all tie together into a singular message. The biggest problem here is that the Truths Merida and Eleanor individually learn over the course of the story have nothing to do with each other:. And neither of them have anything to do with the bear symbolism—except to tie back into the ultimately extraneous legend of Mordu and the lost kingdom. Second Pinch Point: While Merida and her mother are out in the woods, trying to figure out what to do before the curse becomes permanent at the second sunrise, they are attacked by the evil bear Mordu—and Merida realizes that in order to break the curse, she needs to return home and mend the tapestry she sliced with her sword.

She experiences her Moment of Truth shortly before this while watching her mother learn to fish and survive in the wild. Third Plot Point: Back home in the castle, Eleanor is briefly overtaken by her bear nature. She attacks Merida and her husband and flees. No flashing, they actually have to leave their kilts behind for a very good reason, and then you see them walking away from the audience into the castle.

There is a mention of the queen being naked at one point, though she is covered by a tapestry. Plus the triplets are nude for a very short time, all seen from behind. There is some name calling in the film but no foul language to speak of. The story and the message of the film really overshadow any of the things that make it PG. Can you say Blu-Ray for Christmas?
