Even if they somehow win their final two games of at Watford and Arsenal that would result in a total of 32 points from 38 games; relegation form by anyone's reckoning. It had all started so brightly for the local lad — one of the icons of Palace's FA Cup final team having scored the winner in the famous semi-final victory over all-conquering Liverpool.
On his return to Selhurst Park in January , Pardew inspired Palace to a brilliant run in the second half of that season, helping the Eagles soar from the bottom three to a 10th-placed finish and injecting an optimism around the place not seen since those halcyon days of the early 90s. When Palace then hit the ground running in Pardew's first — and ultimately only — full season in charge, with the south London club sitting in sixth in December, the sky seemed the limit, especially with big American investment on the horizon.
That is not what the Americans bought into. Palace chairman Steve Parish, as instrumental in bringing Pardew to the club as he was American investment, has tried to best balance the two interests but enough, finally, has proved enough for the lifelong Palace fan after the latest glut of demoralising defeats.
A sign of Parish's genuine desire for Pardew to succeed is that he leaves the club by far the longest serving manager of the chairman's reign. Since the CPFC consortium saved the club from administration six-and-a-half years ago, Palace have had six managers. He scored winner in the famous semi-final victory over all-conquering Liverpool in Pardew pictured at Swansea this season - a match which saw his team suffer a defeat.
But with the club teetering on the edge of the relegation zone it is the continued presence of Parish that will reassure Palace fans — even more so than the American millions and seemingly impending arrival of survival expert Sam Allardyce.
While managers have not lasted long under him Parish has always had a knack of appointing the right man at the right time. All with the exception of Warnock have played their part in a steady rise from perennial Championship strugglers to an established top-flight force.
Christian Benteke right was brought to the club in the summer but Palace have struggled. What the club are crying out for is a manager who can provide stability over several seasons to produce the top-half force Parish, the Americans and, most importantly, the fans crave.
Alan Pardew has been sacked by Crystal Palace following eight defeats in 10 Premier League matches, with former England manager Sam Allardyce set to hold talks over replacing him. Sky sources understand Allardyce's representatives will meet for talks with Palace chairman Steve Parish in the next 24 hours. It is understood no agreement is in place yet between Parish and Allardyce, although the former England manager has made it clear he is keen to return to football management in the near future.
We look at the stats that led to Pardew's Palace departure. The home loss to Chelsea last Saturday left the Eagles in 17th place in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
Palace have endured a dismal in the Premier League, winning just six of their 36 matches, picking up only 26 points. Pardew, who led Palace to their first FA Cup final in 26 years in May, has been relieved of his duties with 18 months left to run on his contract. That's the real lunacy here, not the managerial 'carousel'. At least Pardew had passion and put effort in unlike the players.
Ian Wright is one hell of a negative commentator. Never hear him hyping stuff or giving praise, always the bearer of doom. The players are at total fault. They know their jobs, they know what to do. They're earning thousands per game but playing like school boys. They should all be sacked. Some desperately short sighted board of a relegation threatened club will give him a job early next year.
I have no idea. Players getting so much money they think they are bigger than the clubs. Get the wrong bunch together at any club and they can literally hold the club to ransom, get it relegated.
What do they care? They are millionaires already. Comment posted by Picc, at 3 Apr Picc. It might be a totally unconnected comment, but where does all the initialled corporate clothing go when the managers are sacked?
